Ok so I spent the morning caching with Sir Charles and had a great time until the temp was around 109 so we called it quits after a mile walk to a DNF. So we go to his house and I get my car, get some In n Out animal style, and drive home. Eat and get the notion I need to do more so I went to my local one to find it. The small cache is in a bush and says to bring gloves so I do that and I bring my machette jr from Gerber( no endorcement at all). So I'm at it for about 10 minutes in the hot sun and I circle the bush a few times and still no dice. I was using the JR to push back different parts of the bush but it didn't help. It was always in it's sheath so I wouldn't be wielding a weapon in public openly. So after getting hot and sweaty with no cache, I start walking back to my blazer. As I do, a police car pulls up and stops me. One officer was very cool and the other was a pisshead. So I follow all their orders, I drop the JR in the dirt, stand in the sun and answer their questions. The pisshead was saying I was concealing a weapon in a public park and I didn't know it was a public park but thought it was a normal community park. So we get into a heated discussion and I applied my brakes to the suttle yes sir no sir answers because he wouldn't listen to me. When you ask a question, give a few seconds to respond please. One question at a time too. So the cooler cop pulls me aside and starts talking to me which calms me down. They place the JR in the trunk and they run all my info with the local police and of course I have a clean record aka model average human with nothing on his record. The cool one says it could go 2 ways, I would either go to jail, or they can take the machette and destroy it. So I suggested that I take the JR and take it home and not to use it in the city to do caching and they agreed. They placed it in the rear of my blazer and let me go with a warning. The nerve of the angry cop to say he's going to end my career by taking me to the base and turning me into the first shirt. I didn't argue with him but what gives him the right to say he's going to take away my life by doing this small act? People get DUI's and they stay in....oh well.

Lesson learned, don't go caching in North Las Vegas with a Gerber machette JR in hand. Talk about a sour note to end the geocaching day.

We just have to deal with Heat, Humidity and SPIDERS.

Maybe I should have sold you my JR before I left. I blame it all on you Bryan. Boy do I feel better now that you've accepted the blame.

NLV police are something to deal with while you are caching. They are questioning everything and they assume that you are up to no good. I am always a bit more cautious in NLV.

At least I can feel safe because they are out doing something verses the fatties sitting at Krispy Kremes doing nothing.

They are more annoying that anything. Try caching in downtown NLV.

out of curiosity, did you get a name? My cousin Paul has cached with me in the past and works Vice out in LV. As to threatening your career... doubt he'd do it as your shirt would have probably laughed at the idiot. He was just trying to show he knew best.

Nah no name required. I took it as a suck it up. Since I didn't know the law that I was violating then I was ignorant so I will be caching with my multi-tool shovel. It's longer but weighs more. Oh well, time for some arm strength.

When did a knife become a concealed weapon?
Glad I got my 1 cache to take Nevada off my caching list.

I wouldn't call it a "knife," the blade on a Gerber Machete Jr. is 10.75 inches long.

No offense to joshuaSR, but if I saw someone wandering around a public park with a machete, I'd call the cops. On the other hand, I'd expect them to be professional about it. Good thing one of them was -- shame about the other chucklehead.

NLV police are just paranoid. I try to be extra cautious when caching in NLV.
