2010 MAGC Travel Bug Challenge
Running Dates
Starting date is July 2nd, 2010.
Final date is November 11th, 2010: Veterans Day.
1st and foremost...This is for fun (and bragging rights) please keep it that way.
Participants must be registered members of the MAGC. (the organization is open to non military... see ""who may join" on the "welcome page.
A single launch point for bugs has been determined. Launch will be at the COWWS Friday Meet & Greet and Luau (GC261XB).
Do not log your TB into a cache prior to the event cache so each bug has a common starting point.
Late Entries
Late entries will be allowed, but must be started in a MAGC cache and follow all other rules.
If you enter a TB, you must enter swag to the Kitty (to be sent/collected closer to Veterans Day)
TBs must travel through "Natural Means"
1. Once launched, the owner can not retrieve it and move it again
2. It can only be moved once per cacher
3. The TB may not travel via snail mail - unless via stargate, wormhole, portal or other cache designed for rapid movement of TBs over distance. (owner may not request their TB to one of these caches)
4. The Bugs can not be "handed off" in a TDY, PCS or vacation scenario to gain miles.
5. the Caches the bug travels through or is launched from MUST be an active cache not one pending activation or sitting archived/temporary down
As a participant, you may not hinder the progress of any other travel bug
The Bug Page must state that it is a participant in the the MAGC 2009 Bug Challenge with a link back to the MAGC (a photo of the TB companion is not required, but is appreciated.)
Maximum 2 bugs per cacher username (family teams can be allowed extras for children with no username just specify as such)
"Other Service Ribbons"
Awards to be given:
Bug with the Most Miles
Bug with the Most Legs - how many times it changed hands/caches
MIA bug memorial
Bug visiting the most states/countries
Bug with the Most discoveries
Bug with the Longest Leg- excluding the Phase 1-Phase II jump.
The Can of Beans Award
In honor of the very first cache...this award will be given to the bug that just doesn't quite make it far...least distance. |

I was asked if there would be a theme this year.
For lack of time, and prior planning, would anyone object to theming your TBs on your hometown?
Take pictures and write a description, as we'll have a vote later this summer for the most creative TB. _________________ OIF 2009-2010

| This is a bit hard for me since my hometown is in AZ and I am currently living in VA. Not sure I would be able to get something to go with the theme. |

I received chellelay's TBs in time before leaving for Geowoodstock.
Any late arrivals to my mailbox will be taken to the Original Stash for a starting point.
If anyone wants to join in to the TB race late, post your TB's URL here and start your TB at a nearby MAGC cache, or if you feel like paying some postage you could always send to me and I'll take it to the Original Stash. _________________ OIF 2009-2010

I was wondering if there would be a posting of who all entered the 2010 Travel Bug Race and what were the standings? Just wondering how we would know who was moving and who wasn't and who was even in the race. How will we know who won? _________________ Team ReLay |

Whoops! I'm getting forgetful this summer. Sorry about that.
Initial entry to the race at Geowoodstock VIII:
Logan's Monkey ( http://coord.info/TB3NQNT )
ReLay and Signal Trackable Tag ( http://coord.info/TB3HMTV )
bramasoleiowa's oxygen regulator ( http://coord.info/TB3C9R3 )
Logan's Monkey has traveled to Alabama and Georgia already, racking up 2095.9 miles.
The others are taking their time leaving Geowoodstock.
If anyone would like to add a late-start TB, let me know. I would happily take the TB to the Original Stash tribute plaque for its start.
Updates will be run about once a month through the race. _________________ OIF 2009-2010

so I´ve managed to miss the TB race start AGAIN..hahaha.. seriously, these past weeks have been crazy.. so I´ll uphold the tradition and wait another year!!
I do have a question though, wasn´t there supposed to be a small box with loot for the winning bug of the last race?? just thought of that... because so far nothing made it here and I´m always afraid that stuff gets lost in my APO...
does anyone know? _________________ No matter where you go, there you are!

Seems like even though there were only 3 bugs in the race, only 1 is moving. Logans Monkey has just over 2000 miles and ReLay w/Signal Tag has changed hands 2 times and still no miles logged. The last person to have the frog will not even respond to my emails. I know Bramasoleiowa Tb has also been picked up and it too is stuck in limbo somewhere. How this just sucks!!!! Why can't people just help them travel. I know I have learned from this.. I was in the beginning looking for just the right spot to drop that bug or coin I had picked up but no longer. From this point forward if there is room in the next cache thats where it's gonna go. You know I figured by now that all the bugs would have seen lots of miles and caches... Logans Monkey has only seen 3.
Thanks for the updates!!

Germaricans- There is a box ready for you, I never got a reply to verify your APO. (Plus I've been horrible about keeping up on MAGC and a few other sites. This pesky thing called life keeps getting in the way of caching and communicating)
And I gotta agree with chellelay- its been a bit disappointing for this race.
I'm still waiting for a reply from the cacher that grabbed one of my TBs at the start of last year's race and never moved it. He used to go to event caches around here, but since I returned from deployment he hasn't been at a single one... _________________ OIF 2009-2010

Just wanted to say that FINALLY ReLay w/Signal Tag is moving. HA!!
It has changed hands 3 times and has only logged 24 miles!! Whoo Hooo!! Sadly though I see that the third racer Bramasoleiowa's oxygen regulator
has not logged any miles either. Logan's Monkey is for my daughter and the other part of my team. I know this is not how it is supposed to work but we are willing to forgo any SWAG changing hands unless of course someone other than us wins the race. We will be more than Happy to send our part. This just dosn't really seem like much of a race. Unless we can extend the legnth of the race?? Just a suggestion but what about letting it run till next 4th of July??? How many miles can we get logged in a year?? Just might even out the playing field.. Logan's Monkey has over 2200 miles right now.
Anyway this is just a suggestion..
Welcome home to all who were deployed, and Hurry home to those that are still out away from home!!

And you're both from Louisiana?
Louisiana Army National Guard replaced the Oregon Army National Guard earlier this year so I could come home. _________________ OIF 2009-2010
